Enforcement of parking regulations promotes pedestrian and vehicular safety, provides improved traffic flow, and increases access to short-term parking at meters and on residential streets. Be sure to read important information on parking in the District of Columbia and the Top 20 Parking Violations and Fees. Parking tickets are adjudicated by the Department of Motor Vehicles. Payment instructions are printed on the reverse side of all tickets.

Parking Officers are civilian employees of the DC Department of Public Works with training and full authority to enforce parking regulations citywide by writing parking citations and requesting towing when necessary. In addition to patrolling prescribed business and residential routes throughout the city, Parking Officers also respond to enforcement request calls from DPW's Parking Services Dispatch Desk.

Every month, our customers—DC residents and businesses—make between 1,500 and 1,900 specific requests for parking enforcement. Primarily, they want tickets issued for violations of parking laws, such as those pertaining to residential zone permit parking, rush hour, private property, red meters and loading zones.

Any customer requiring parking enforcement in the District may place a service request by calling the Citywide Call Center at 311.
